NTU-USYD Ignition Grants
The next call is expected to be open in September 2024 for 2025 Ignition Grants.
National Taiwan University (NTU) and the University of Sydney (USYD) have together committed to fund up to five selected proposals and offer up to AUD 20,000 (NTD 400,000) per selected proposals. In other words, each university will offer up to AUD 10,000 (NTD 200,000) per selected proposals to their respective faculty.
Applications should be jointly submitted by NTU and USYD faculty. NTU Office of International Affairs (OIA) and USYD Office of Global Engagement will administer the funding project.

USYD Chief Investigator (CI) must be employed on full-time, part-time (appointed at least 0.5 FTE), fixed term or continuing bases. If on a fixed term contract, the end date must be beyond the funding period.
NTU CI must be tenure-track faculty and not on sabbatical leave during the funding period.
For NTU OIA funding, NTU CI is eligible to submit a maximum of 2 proposals with different partner university per year and receive funding with the same partner university at most twice.
Funding Period: Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2024
Funding Amount: Up to NTD 400,000 per selected proposal; up to 5 proposals per call
*Funding will be shared equally by the universities and made payable to the respective faculty.
Eligible Funding: International travel expenses by NTU faculty and students, relevant international collaboration expenses, and stipend for foreign, non-NTU scholars
*Eligible expenses considered to be international collaboration include (1) NTU faculty, researchers, and graduate students research abroad, (2) hosting international conferences, workshops, or symposiums in Taiwan, and (3) joint lecture or lecture series.
**Eligible expenses considered to be daily stipend for hosting foreign, non-NTU scholars include (1) remuneration and living expenses for scholars’ work days in Taiwan and (2) domestic travel in Taiwan.
***Funding does NOT cover: consumable supplies and equipment for research and personnel expenditure, including full-time or part-time assistants.
