Professor Hao-Ming Hsiao received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from National Sun Yat-sen University in 1988. He pursued graduate studies at Northwestern University in 1990 and received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in 1992 and 1995, respectively. From 1996 to 1997, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Northwestern University (QEFP Center). From 1997 to 2001, he served as a senior scientist at Hexcel Corp (Aerospace Division). From 2002 to 2009, he served as a principal engineer at Abbott Lab (Vascular Division). In 2009, he returned to Taiwan to serve in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at National Taiwan University, where he has remained since.
Professor Hao-Ming Hsiao expertise lies in advanced medical devices, focusing on AI smart healthcare, surgical robot, and stent/catheter technology. He developed the world’s first disease screening technology capable of revealing subtle pulsations on the body's surface that are invisible to the naked eyes. Utilizing only standard camera and visible light to capture video of the subject, the process can be completed in just 5 minutes. This innovation offers a rapid, accurate, and affordable screening, serving as a first-line defense against major diseases for the first time. He then founded the startup company Pulxion Medical Technology in 2020 and has since raised over USD 4 million in capital, including a recent USD 1.3 million investment from Taiwan National Development Fund.
Professor Hao-Ming Hsiao academic achievements have earned significant recognition both in Taiwan and internationally. He received the Future Tech Award from the National Science and Technology Council twice (2020, 2026). He won the National Innovation Award six times and swept every award category, from Academic Innovation Award to Enterprise Innovation Award, thereby achieving a "Grand Slam" of the National Innovation Award. In 2025 alone, he received the Taipei Biotech Award, NTU Outstanding Mentor Award, and NSYSU Outstanding Alumnus Award, in addition to securing NTU Teaching Excellence Award for the seventh time. He has frequently been invited to present as a keynote speaker and faculty member at international conferences and currently serves on the Editorial Review Board of the “Digital Health” journal.
In addition to his research, Professor Hao-Ming Hsiao has provided important professional services, including committee member on the Science and Technology Policies for the Executive Yuan; Chairs of the A+ Program, Value Creation Program 2.0, and Technology Development Programfor the Ministry of Economic Affairs; committee member for the Stanford-Taiwan Biomedical (STB) Fellowship Program.
