NTU-LMU Joint Seed Funding

The application for the 2026 Joint Seed Funding has closed.

National Taiwan University (NTU) and the University of Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich(LMU) have together committed to fund up to three selected proposals and offer up to EUR €12,000 (NTD $400,000) per selected proposal. In other words, each university will offer up to EUR € 6,000 (NTD 200,000) per selected proposals to their respective faculty.

Applications should be jointly submitted by NTU and LMU faculty. NTU Office of International Affairs (OIA) and LMU International Office will administer the funding project.

  1. LMU Chief Investigator (CI) must be full-time, tenure track faculty members for the duration of the funding period.
  2. NTU PI must be full-time or project-based faculty members/research fellow.
  3. For NTU OIA funding, NTU PI is eligible to submit a maximum of 2 proposals with different partner university per year and receive funding with the same partner university at most twice.
  • Funding Period: Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2026
  • Funding Amount: Up to NTD 400,000 per selected proposal; up to 3 proposals per call
    • Funding will be shared equally by the universities and made payable to the respective faculty.
  • NTU Eligible Funding: International travel expenses by NTU faculty and students, relevant international collaboration expenses, and stipend for foreign, non-NTU scholars
    • Eligible expenses considered to be international collaboration include (1) NTU faculty, researchers, and graduate students research abroad, (2) hosting international conferences, workshops, or symposiums in Taiwan, and (3) joint lecture or lecture series.
    • Eligible expenses considered to be daily stipend for hosting foreign, non-NTU scholars include (1) remuneration and living expenses for scholars’ work days in Taiwan and (2) domestic travel in Taiwan.
    • Funding does NOT cover: consumable supplies and equipment for research and personnel expenditure, including full-time or part-time assistants.

  2. Application Materials: Project Proposal Form, CVs of PIs and collaborator(s), and Letter of Support from lab/faculty director of PIs. For details, please refer to “Application” in the Call for Proposals.
  3. Application Process: NTU and LMU PIs should only submit one joint project proposal through LMU’s online application portal. *Please note that LMU’s online application portal can only be accessed by LMU’s PIs. Please refer to the Sample Applicatiom Form to review and discuss the application questions before logging into the online system.
