Lab Introduction

We focus on studies in the pathogenesis and treatment of kidney diseases, aging, and complications. Chronic kidney disease has a high prevalence and incidence, and acute kidney disease leads to huge medical expenses and complications worldwide. After integrating the clinical data of patients, we use animal experiments to confirm the causality and find novel treatments. The main research tool in this laboratory is genetically modified or transgenic mice, which provide specific gene knockout or expression in specific kidney cells to observe their effects on kidney regeneration/repair/fibrosis/aging/tumor, kidney disease, or dialysis-related complications, thereby developing novel treatments. The cells we study include kidney pericytes, tubular epithelial cells, glomerular podocytes, peritoneal mesothelial cells, submesothelial fibroblasts, macrophages, lymphocytes, endothelial cells, etc. The molecules we study include erythropoietin, hypoxia-inducible factors, methyltransferase, angiopoietin, angiotensin, aldosterone, etc.
