Lab Introduction
Our laboratory focuses on sustainable material management and the circular economy, developing quantitative methods to trace and evaluate material flows, distributions, driving forces and resulting environmental and economic impacts throughout the life cycle. This work reveals waste sources, treatment processes, and consumption patterns while designing practical circular strategies. We assess the supply chain distribution, the associated competitivity, and reduction potential of secondary materials across diverse circular pathways to reduce dependency on primary resources, thereby promoting the decoupling of resource use from economic growth. We also develop multi-regional integrated economic-environmental models, applied to green economy planning, deep decarbonization pathways, and forward-looking sustainable transition research in Taiwan, collaborating with international institutions to provide quantitative support for policy design. At the urban scale, we estimate urban resource stocks and waste-to-resource potentials, analyzing strategies for urban mining, resource circulation, and governance. Through cross-scale and interdisciplinary research, our laboratory is committed to assisting society in achieving sustainable transformation and advancing long-term goals of resource efficiency and environmental sustainability.
