Our group research interests are in bioanalytical chemistry, focusing on developing rapid, sensitive, and reliable methods for assaying the pathogenic agents, such as bacterial toxins and microbes, disease-related small molecules, peptides, and mi-croRNA, and applying these analytical methods to determine their levels in various biological fluids. These methods have great potential for application in clinical diag-nostics, food safety monitoring, epidemic control, and, most recently, counterterror-ism campaigns. In addition to the development of biosensors, we are also interested in designing novel, controlled-release drug delivery systems using nanotechnology, which help to overcome the dilemmas caused by the narrow therapeutic indexes of drugs. Such drug delivery vectors offer many advantages, including improved effica-cy and reduced toxicity.
